Many mothers and fathers hope that their children will be successful. Some invest heavily so that their little ones could be famous and rich, not only in material goods, but also in the prestige of men. This is not bad, it is just the inner movement of a loving heart. However, it is equally important to raise our children so that they will be happy, sacrifice themselves, be fulfilled for the right reasons and achievements, even if it brings some discomfort.
There are many things that our world calls conquests and that, in fact, are existential defeats and true factories of unhappiness. In this matter, immerse yourself in the soul and heart of the Virgin Mary, try to probe the feelings of this mother’s heart by witnessing, live, the loving offer and yet another magnificent sign of Jesus, the fruit of her own.
Although it has been more than thirty years, I confess that, every now and then, I was visited by the words of the Angel of the Lord: “Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, whom you will name Jesus. He will be great, he will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David” (Lk 1: 31-32). My boy was now big and starting to have different experiences, more daring than those of childhood, if you know what I mean. I had kept so many things in my heart since that announcement made by the angel that I don’t know if there would be room for anything else. But, incredible as it may seem, God wanted my Shalom’s public life to begin through my request.
This fact is reported in the Gospels as the “Wedding at Cana”. Some of our acquaintances were getting married, and many guests were present. Marriage in Israel is a time of great joy. The abundance of food is a symbol of future abundance in the life of the lovebirds. Wine is a symbol of joy, happiness and peace. It seems an insignificant detail, but the act that my Son would perform there, was an expression of the perfect love of our God, who is concerned with the smallest details for the happiness of his Children (cf. Jn 2,1-2).
However, there was a lack of wine and the bride and groom were apprehensive. So I put my gifts into action, those of being intercessor and repairer of breaches, I went to my Son and I said: “They have no more wine” (Jn 2,3). He, however, responded by saying that his time had not yet come (cf. Jo 2,4) I, giving a disagreement, turned to the employees and said: “Do whatever he tells you” (Jo 2,5).
The employees took six stone water jars that were placed there for the purification of the people. Each of them could hold about a hundred liters. Then, my Son said to those who were serving: “Fill the jars with water.” They filled them up to the brim. He went on and said “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter”. And they did it. The headwaiter tasted the water that had turned into wine. He was impressed. The headwaiter then called the bridegroom and said: “Everyone serves good wine first and the worst wine when the guests are well wined” But you have kept the best wine till now! ” (Jn 2, 7).
I stayed there in my little corner, discreet and hidden. Only my son Shalom and I knew what had happened. Well, I insisted that the bride and groom be rescued at that moment of embarrassment. There he began his public life and, from there, a range of miracles and even more impressive signs were performed by Him (cf. Jn 2.11).
If you need grace, if you have lacked the wine of joy, peace, happiness, faith and praise in your trials, count on my constant intercession before Him, everything will be alright.
God bless you always.
Shalom!
