Pope Francis at weekly General Audience: the scandal of division

Pope Francis devoted the catechetical portion of his weekly General Audience on Wednesday to the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which this year is dedicated to a question taken from the First Letter to the Corinthians: “Has Christ Been Divided?”. The English-language synthesis, read out after the main reflection delivered by Pope Francis in Italian, said, “We know that Christ has not been divided; yet we must sincerely recognize that our communities continue to experience divisions which are a source of scandal and weaken our witness to the Gospel.” In reproaching the Corinthians for their divisions, Paul reminds them to rejoice in the great spiritual gifts which they have received. His words encourage us to rejoice in the gifts ...

Pope’s Homily for solemn mass in Assisi

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Friday is celebrating an outdoor solemn mass in the St. Francis Square of the central Italian town of Assisi where he says he is a pilgrim “like countless other pilgrims” who has come to give thanks for the gift of St. Francis to the Church. Today, October 4th,is the Saint’s feast day. As the Pope recalled in his homily in this morning’s liturgy, his namesake and Patron of Italy was the son of a wealthy merchant of Assisi whose “encounter with Jesus led him to strip himself of an easy and carefree life in order to espouse ‘Lady Poverty’ and to live as a true son of our heavenly Father.” Below we publish the Pope’s ...

St Therese. “Little Flower”

Therese Martin was the last of nine children born to Louis and Zelie Martin on January 2, 1873, in Alencon, France. However, only five of these children lived to reach adulthood. Precocious and sensitive, Therese needed much attention. Her mother died when she was 4 years old. As a result, her father and sisters babied young Therese. She had a spirit that wanted everything. At the age of 14, on Christmas Eve in 1886, Therese had a conversion that transformed her life. From then on, her powerful energy and sensitive spirit were turned toward love, instead of keeping herself happy. At 15, she entered the Carmelite convent in Lisieux to give her whole life to God. She took the religious ...

What can I say about my journey to the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro! There are no words to describe the happiness that overwhelms my soul after I experienced Gods  demonstration of his love in this year’s World Youth Day. From the beginning to the end of my journey, I loved every single minute of it, I brought with me beautiful memories, and the friendship of wonderful people. God blessed me in so many ways, I have no idea how to continue to thank him. I believe that he personally called out my name and sent out the invite for me to go and participate in this World Youth Day, because He had something wonderful and fantastic awaiting for ...

Being Shalom

“The Lord, our God, who deserves all the love in the world, performs a work among us: a new work, a new way. This way is real and as time goes by I feel it more concrete inside my heart. It is something new, it is something wonderful. I feel it like God wanting to offer the world one more manifestation of his creating power” (New Work Written) Each time, the Holy Spirit grants necessary graces to the Church for answering the contemporary challenges. Charisma is one of these divine gifts poured upon the Church to renew it and update the way of living according to the Gospel. Thus, the Charisma Shalom, which was blossomed from Moysés Azevedo’s heart during ...
