“I don’t stand alone!” – WYD Testimony

What can I say about my journey to the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro! There are no words to describe the happiness that overwhelms my soul after I experienced Gods  demonstration of his love in this year’s World Youth Day. From the beginning to the end of my journey, I loved every single minute of it, I brought with me beautiful memories, and the friendship of wonderful people. God blessed me in so many ways, I have no idea how to continue to thank him. I believe that he personally called out my name and sent out the invite for me to go and participate in this World Youth Day, because He had something wonderful and fantastic awaiting for ...

Being Shalom

“The Lord, our God, who deserves all the love in the world, performs a work among us: a new work, a new way. This way is real and as time goes by I feel it more concrete inside my heart. It is something new, it is something wonderful. I feel it like God wanting to offer the world one more manifestation of his creating power” (New Work Written) Each time, the Holy Spirit grants necessary graces to the Church for answering the contemporary challenges. Charisma is one of these divine gifts poured upon the Church to renew it and update the way of living according to the Gospel. Thus, the Charisma Shalom, which was blossomed from Moysés Azevedo’s heart during ...

Diaconia

Diaconia is the headquarter of the Shalom Catholic Community’s General Government where the advisories, secretariats and sectors are linked directly to the general moderator work. It is called Shalom’s heart, because it assists the missions in many services linked to the missionary and communitarian action, the work with the youth, and to the human and vocational promotion. The name “diaconia” comes from Greek “diakoneo”, which means “service made through love”, without constraint and in a perfect harmony with Christ’s teaching. The name was suggested by the Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko in 2006, when he came to visit Shalom. At that time, the Community was making efforts to start the building of the General Government’s headquarter. Placed in the district of Aquiraz, ...

Spirituality

“What should we do, Lord, if not love you completely, with all we are! To give ourselves to you with all our weakness and, despite it, to live for you and to be the servants of your Kingdom?” (Written Espousal Love). Shalom’s Spirituality is based on the unconditional love, “espousal”, to Jesus Christ and in the Gospel radical living. The Spousal Love, which generates a union with the divine’s will, blooms and matures in the cultivation of God’s intimacy, fostered in a deep personal and comunitary praying life. A praying life acts as an effective guide to have a Contemplation, Unit and Evangelization experience. These 3 actions are masters in St. Teresa of Jesus’ spiritual life, who walked a intimacy ...

The TAU in Shalom Vocation

Meaning The TAU has a shape of the greek letter (T) that is a cross. St. Francis borrowed the Tau and what it meant to him from the Antonians. They were a religious community of men founded in 1095 whose sole function was to care for lepers. The Tau is the habit of the Secular Franciscan living in the world.Francis was very familiar with these men because they staffed the leper house in Assisi and the hospital of St. Blase in Rome where Francis went to stay. St. Francis was exposed to the Tau through the direct influence of the Antonians, but the greatest influence of all that made the Tau so dear to Francis, whereby it became his signature, ...

St. Francis of Assisi

The Shalom vocation is a vocation with single traits influenced by the Franciscan Spirituality. Along with St. Teresa of Avila, St. Francis of Assisi is a teacher of spiritual life for the members of Shalom Community. He is a safe way that the catholic mystique presents us. We are inspired by him to cry out to the world: “Love is not loved!”. The real peace inside humans’ heart and in the world can only be established if it is based on the inconditional love, “espousal”, to Jesus Christ. After a strong experience of conversion, St. Francis started to live radically the gospel through spousal love. Getting rid of everything that could be an obstacle to live Divine’s will, he showed ...

Summer, WYD and Pope Francis

You may think  what Summer, World Youth Day and Pope Francis have in common to be together in this post. Well, I can assure you  that they have a lot in common actually. Let us start with Summer. It   is a great time, especially for those who live in North America, as we here  in Canada. It lasts for  a short period of time, when we can enjoy the good weather, the company of our friends in outdoor activities such as camps, picnics and  street festivals, that are all very important if you consider that we live in a really cold place, and that Summer only goes for 3 months, it is a short time but pretty  intense and when ...

Definitive Promises

"And there is no turning back, our heart is yours". This year, on May 4th, three members of our mission made their Definitive Promises in the Shalom Charisma, committing themselves to live this Vocation forever as Life Community ( Paula Mainardi) and Covenant Community (Alexandre e Andrea Reis).

Life Community

The vocation to Shalom Community might be lived in two complementary dimensions: The Life Community and the Covenant Community. “In Life Community, our realization is no longer in what the world has to offer us, but it will be exactly in the renouncement of all this, for a total dedication to God and to the service in his vineyard” (Statutes of Shalom Community). The Life Community is the core of Shalom Community. Its life style plays the model of the first Christian Communities, where everything is put in common and all the goods, projects and personal plans are renounced. Its members are missionaries of both genders and forms of life. They are called to follow Jesus Christ for their love ...
