From time to time it is possible to view posts, comments, stories and tweets in the social media networks of the Shalom Catholic Community or its members which have content from the book Writings. But what is it about this book that attracts so much attention? Certainly, it is not the size of the miniature version which one can hold in the palm of a hand. Rather, its magnetism lays in the richness of its words.
For the Shalom Community, Writings forms the basis of Shalom spirituality, revealing the identity of the Charism and the spirit of the founder Moysés Azevedo. The book is divided into sections which tell and forever preserve the origins, challenges, results and essential points of what God has inspired for the Charism and the Community, through all that the author and founder has learned, immersed in prayer and in listening to God.
The book was written in 1984/85 with specific texts referring to the New Work, Spousal Love, Poverty, State of Life, Unity with the Charism and Shalom Professionalization, all of which explain the basis of the Charism. However, it became apparent that it was necessary to clarify what Shalom was about, and so in 1986 another chapter was added to Writings which dealt more specifically with evangelization and how to bring the Father’s Shalom into the hearts of men and women. In 2005, the book was revised again with the addition of Moysés’ “Letter to the Community 2005”, which is an informative and motivating summary of the spirituality of the Charism.
In Writings, the reader finds valuable and important information on the history of the Community and the gradual evolution of the inspiration that led the young Moysés, 37 years ago, to found the Shalom Community.
