New deacons, new seminarians: a gift for the Church and for humanity

This year Shalom Catholic Community rejoices with nine members that will receive the gift of diaconal ordination and with nine members who start into the formation path in view of the priesthood as new seminarians. Now there are already 92 seminarians within the Community on the way for the priestly vocation. According with our Statutes among the brothers called to celibacy for the kingdom, the Lord awakens vocations to the priesthood as Life and Covenant Community and also seminarians, deacons and diocesan priests who feel the calling of the Lord to become shalom missionaries are welcomed to be part of our family. Shalom Community helps on the Seminarians formation in Portugal

The Shalom Catholic Community has been invited by the rector of Saint Paul Seminary, Mr. Rui Teixeira, to be part of the professors’ board for the school year 2018/2019, at the Diocese of Setubal in Portugal, with the Community Local Authority, Messias Albano, who teaches the course of Human Formation. Messias has entered the Shalom Community at 20 years of age. He is graduated in Philosophy and has become a consecrated lay member of the Community with perpetual vows of celibacy, dedicating his whole life to the religious service. The course works in four modules to cover the way of “Ordo Amoris”, that is essentially the self-knowledge of the human being, an experience of healing of their self-image through an encounter with themselves and with God. 15 New Seminarians in Shalom Community

Shalom Catholic Community welcomes its new 15 Seminarians who will now start a new journey of discernment and formation towards priesthood. The Community is made of missionary men, women, singles, married couples and priests. It currently has 24 ordained priests who are in service of the Church in many of the Community’s missionary houses all over the world. Before ordination, the Seminarians Shalom undergo a long period of studies, formation, discernment, apostolic service in the Community’s many apostolic works, all of this in order to become a proper sign of the Lord’s mercy to the world. Shalom hosts retreat for Diocesan and Religious seminarians

From 6-10th of July, 2015, Shalom Catholic Community will host in the city of Fortaleza, Brazil, the Shalom Retreat for Seminarians. The retreat is open to any diocesan or religious seminarian from Brazil and other countries. Through moments of prayer, talks and life sharing, the Community wishes to deepen the fundamental concepts in the path towards priesthood. The retreat’s theme was inspired in St Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians “Christ is our Peace” (Eph 2:14). “We believe that the Shalom Charisma has a way of prayer and human growth that can enrich the formative process towards priesthood. Shalom Community: 4 seminarians will become deacons next week.

Next week, on August 25, 2014, Shalom Catholic Community in  Brazil will be welcoming 4 new deacons. After a long time of preparation and discernment the seminarians Célio Lourenço da Silva, Cledison Reis Lima, Livandro Nonato C. D. Monteiro and Rômulo Bezerra de Castro, who are members of the life community, will receive from His Eminence Bishop Jose Antonio Aparecido Jose Marques, the first step of the Holy Orders. The Ordination will take place at Fortaleza’s Cathedral at 6:30 pm, local time. Currently Shalom Catholic Community has 13 priests who are members of life community and 10 priests who are members of covenant community.

Father João Chagas, priest and missionary of Life Community, has been on mission in Rome for more than 20 years at the service of the Shalom Catholic Community and the universal church. They were years of "richness", full of experiences marked by the protagonism of young people from all over the world, years which now culminate in his return to Fortaleza, Brazil.
