Shalom Catholic Community: Spreading Joy and Faith in Boston through Evangelization and Community Celebration

comshalom

The Shalom Catholic Community is a charismatic Catholic community that focuses on the evangelization of the young people in Boston and on nurturing its community, which is open to all! At Shalom, there are many fun events and socials that glorify our God and encourage evangelization. For example, during the winter, we provide hot chocolate and invite believers and non-believers alike to participate in Praise and Worship.

At the community, there are dedicated and pious missionaries that live for Christ, our Lord. There are Covenant Community Missionaries, who live their missionary vocation in the midst of their professional lives. For example, being a teacher and being a missionary. There are also Life Community Missionaries, who dedicate all their time exclusively to the mission and the evangelization. These missionaries lead a consecrated life meant to edify the Catholic church.

Durning this advent season, Shalom ensures that members of the community and non-members have a family away from home. On 12/09 Shalom held a heartwarming Christmas party, which included a beautiful skit about the birth of Jesus. The skit involved the hesitation many people had regarding hosting a pregnant Mary and Joseph when they needed a place to stay in Nazareth. The cast showcased how intrinsic factors can get in the way of Jesus’ love for us. Things such as depression and selfishness can affect us in such a way that it becomes more challenging to accept Him as our Lord and Savior. The beautifully written and executed play truly captured the spirit of Christmas and prepared guests for the birth of Jesus a little bit more. It was extremely lighthearted and quip.

Equally as important, there was a pot-lock with a multitude of delicious foods, desserts and beverages. No Christmas party would be complete without a dramatic and gripping Yankee swap. Personally, my favorite was how Raymond was the first to go at the Yankee swap and he obtained a bottle of wine. Everyone wanted this highly coveted gift, which he lost, but in the end, Raymond was able to get it back, as he was allowed to go again per the rules. This was reminiscent of God’s famous words “The last will be first.”

In addition, the music ministry added flair and enchantment to the play. The actors broke the fourth wall and encouraged the audience to participate, highlighting that spirit of Christmas of “connectedness.” By allowing the community to partake in the music ministry, Shalom recognizes that it is nothing without the people that it serves. It is vastly important to have a deep and fruitful life in solitary prayer, but it is equally, if not more important, to build a prayer life based on community.

And so, I invite you to join us at Praise and Worship on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM, where we adore our one and only Lord, together. Plus, there is music, dancing, and time to hang out together!
