3 Brazilians nominated for the Dicastery for the Laity

The Prefect of the Congregation for Consecrated Life, Card. João Braz de Aviz, the auxiliary bishop of Rio de Janeiro, Joel Portella Amado and the founder of the Shalom Catholic Community, Moysés de Azevedo Filho, are among the new members.

The Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life has become even more “Brazilian”. Pope Francis has appointed 47 new members this Saturday. Between them, three come from Brazil:

the Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Society of Apostolic Life, Card. João Braz de Aviz; the auxiliary bishop of Rio de Janeiro, Joel Portella Amado; and the Founder and Moderator General of Shalom Community, Moysés de Azevedo Filho.

The secretary of the Dicastery is the Brazilian, Father Alexandre Awi Mello, while the responsible of the Youth Sector is Father João Chagas, member of Shalom Community.

The prefect is the Irish Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell.
