Carlo and an Eucharistic Community

Carlo’s second advice on how we can become saints referred to what he called his highway to heaven, which is the Eucharist: “Try to go to Holy Mass every day and take Holy Communion.”

The Eucharist, is in fact the center of the Church and needs to be the summit and source of life for every Christian, as it is the very body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus, offered to us as food for eternal life. Therefore, we must love the Eucharist and always be prepared to receive it in communion with other faithful members. After all, Christ wants to dwell in our hearts, so this house, even in its simplicity and poverty, must be well arranged to welcome such an important guest.

This love for the Eucharist and the desire to transmit it to as many people as possible was the inspiration for Carlo to devise a rich digital exhibition about the Eucharistic miracles that he managed to catalog in nearly five years of research, which can be accessed through the link below:

First Communion

Carlo received the his first Communion when he was seven years old, after he insisted a lot with his parents, as he had not yet reached the normal age to receive this Sacrament, however, the local bishop, seeing that his wish was sincere and that he was already mature enough to understand what Holy Communion is, he gave him a special authorization to allow him to receive communion for the first time, provided he did so in a quiet place suitable for prayer.

Ever since then, Carlo’s love for the Eucharist led him to take a deep dive into faith, as his mother Antonia Salzano said: “I believe he received special graces. He didn’t say much about it, but he told me that when he was before the Holy Eucharist, he felt his soul being ‘elevated’. He said that the feeling he often had was like standing before a Source that took his soul to great heights. He said it was like being transported. Christ in the Eucharist captured him*”.

Eucharist and Shalom Community

Similarly, the Eucharist is the center of the Shalom spirituality. The founder of the Community, Moysés Azevedo, sometimes states that Shalom is an Eucharistic Community: “As an Eucharistic Community, the Lord always calls us to grow in love for the celebration of the Eucharist and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in our personal and community life” (Letter to the Community 2005, §72).

God the Father also calls us to serve His Kingdom according to the oblative offering of Christ in the Eucharist, because our offering must be total and unconditional, like Jesus’ offering on His Cross, of which the Eucharist is a living and present memorial.

Members of the Shalom Work are encouraged to receive daily Eucharist and constantly attend adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, not as an obligation, but as concrete act of love for their soul’s Beloved, in praise and thanksgiving for all that the Lord accomplishes in their lives through Holy Communion.

Therefore, in everything, let us seek to be united with Jesus in the Eucharist, especially through Holy Mass, moments of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and even through service to the Kingdom of Heaven, which must find its strength, motivation and purpose in the Eucharist.
