A 2023 on fire for the Shalom Catholic Community in Brooklyn

“What the world needs is the love of God, to encounter Christ and believe in him!”. (Pope Benedict XVI)

A new year has begun and the mission of the Shalom Catholic Community in Brooklyn is filled with excitement to grow in the love of God among its members, to serve the church, help the poor, lead young adults to a deeper encounter with Christ, and to grow in the joy of being a community of brothers and sisters, young men and women who are daily transformed by the power of the Gospel.

For this year the Community expects to hold concerts, retreats, international parties, prayer groups, camping retreats, a pilgrimage to the World Youth Day in Portugal, Life in the Spirit Seminars, coffee and chat, hikes, hangouts, and much more. There will be events going on all year long, both indoor and outdoor. The consecrated members of the Shalom Catholic Community will work together with young adults who are part of the prayer groups, with one goal in mind: leading people to Christ, who is infinitely merciful.

On a weekly basis, masses, prayer groups, hangouts, and brunches are held in the Evangelization Center, which is comprised of three main spaces: the San Damiano Catholic Church, Shalom Park, and SH NY Space. The young adults are invited to live these “ordinary” encounters in an “extraordinary” way, letting themselves grow in communion, deepening their experience with God, His Word, and the life of the saints, and learning to apply all of this to their daily lives.

By the words of the Holy Father, the Community in Brooklyn feels strongly encouraged and sent to a new year of mission:

“So let us set out once more, illumined by our encounter with the risen Lord and prompted by His Spirit. Let us set out again with burning hearts, with our eyes open and our feet in motion. Let us set out to make other hearts burn with the Word of God, to open the eyes of others to Jesus in the Eucharist, and to invite everyone to walk together on the path of peace and salvation that God, in Christ, has bestowed upon all humanity.”
