From March 6 to 8, Shalom Catholic Community promoted an opened retreat at Consolata Missionary Centre. Under the theme “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted! (Matthew 5:4) the community invited Portuguese speaking living in the Great Toronto Area to enjoy a different weekend where they could pray and learn more about the love of God.

During these 3 days, the attendees had the chance to participate in a schedule consisting of talks, moments of prayer, praise and worship and daily Mass with Father Jean Thomas from the Community of Saint John, in Montreal, Quebec.

The retreat began on the night of March 6 with a welcome dinner offered to the participants and the presentation of the schedule for the following days. On March 7 the schedule began at 8 am with praise and worship and the talks “God is happiness” and “The consolation as God´s gift” followed by Holy Mass. In the evening, we had another moment with the father who spoke about “Why and how we suffer” and, after a moment of sharing, we had the community prayer in the Chapel. At night, the participants could enjoy a moment of conviviality and relaxation.

On March 8, the schedule also began at 8 o’clock in the morning with praise and worship after the talk “How to turn pain into love”. Later in the evening, we had the Holy Mass celebrated at 4 pm, ending the 3-day retreat.

Every year the Community organizes this retreat as an opportunity to deepen the experience with God for those who wanted to strengthen their faith. For those who did not have the chance to participate, the Community is always promoting events of evangelization through the year where everybody is welcome.
