In the last two weeks the responsibles of each Community and the current governing body of the Community have been gathering in Fortaleza, Brazil for the 15-day General Assembly to listen to the voice of God and share our aspirations for the next 6 years in the dimensions of our apostolic, community and life of contemplation. Everything we have done for these past 15 days was based on what we have lived and experienced in the last 6 years so that we may discern new plans for the future.

Initially, we had a 3-day spiritual retreat, where Moysés Azevedo, the Founder and General Moderator of Shalom Community, preached and led the community prayers. During these days we spent much time in silent reflection and adoration. This was the best way to begin our Assembly: at the feet of the Lord.

Next, we elected the new general government and then divided into 10 commissions consisting of groups to discuss and prepare documents relevant to our specific areas that will serve as a guide for the Community for the next 6 years.

Every time we meet, we are amazed at how many great things the Lord has done after listening to the different experiences of our brothers and sisters. It is a most special treasure from the Lord to entrust us with all the people of the world- the poor and the rich, the weak and the strong, the young and the old. The one thing we must always remember is to recognize our weakness before the great One and ask of Him for His everlasting mercy. Our Charism is a prophecy to the world, and through us, members of the body of Christ, He performs His wonders: He chooses the weak to confuse the strong.

The Assembly is not simply the election of a governing body or the preparation of a document, it has at its center the heart of Jesus, the primacy of our lives, the supreme Governor of our lives and of the world. During these weeks He saved us, healed us, loved us, rebuilt us, shone His glory upon us, and now He sends us out to the world as disciples and ministers of peace.
