The missionaries of mercy are priests who were sent by the Pope on Ash Wednesday in 2016, during the Jubilee of Mercy, as a sign of God’s Love for all people in the world. Pope Francis has extended their mandates allowing them to continue their apostolate of hearing confessions in order to provide mercy for all those who search for God.
This year the priests have met Pope Francis for the second time at an event organized by the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization from 8 to 11 April in Rome.
Father Antonio Furtado, Father Denys Lima and Father Almeida Neto are members of Shalom Catholic Community and Missionaries of Mercy which have participated in the meeting and were present at the Eucharistic celebration on the Divine Mercy Sunday in St. Peter’s Square.
All over the world, there are more than a thousand missionaries of mercy. They have been called to spread the message of God’s love and forgiveness through their daily activities and ministries, including talks, retreats and social communications. However their main task is to provide reconciliation with God by the sacrament of confession. Many testimonies of conversions have come about through their service.
