Missionary Weekend in London

Last 28th and 29th of September, Shalom Catholic Community in London, England, was engaged in another Missionary Weekend. The missionaries were able to walk throughout the streets of Hackney borough, east London, knocking on doors in the vicinity of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. At every door, they were able to offer a word of peace, blessing and to invite people to have a deeper experience with God at their local Parish or participating in a prayer group for young people.

Inspired by a higher love that once reached and changed their lives, the missionaries went out ready to accept whatever would come behind each door. “We are called to evangelize and to freely give what freely we’ve received from Jesus!”, said Emanuela Cardoso, Definitive member of Shalom Community. Francisca Oliveira, a Disciple member, also shared her experience

“Door to door evangelization, person to person, is a breath of life and of hope for those who still don’t know God and to us, Shalom missionaries born to announce the Risen Christ, to evangelize is life! It is an experience that resuscitates us!”

The Missionary Weekend had the support of the Augustine priests and Ursuline sisters who runs the local parish. Members of St Monica’s Legion of Mary also helped in the intercession and outreach. They all participated in a special moment of Adoration and prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on Saturday evening while people in the streets were invited to light a candle inside the Church for their particular intentions. At the end of these two days, 266 houses were visited.

Shalom Catholic Community is called to evangelize through an explicit announcement of Jesus Christ as part of its charisma and spirituality.
