Recalling the works of God in the history of the Shalom vocation, the founder Moysés Azevedo listed four special moments that marked the history of the Community. He emphasized that to choose the most special moments of the vocation it is a difficult task because God has given a lot of important graces over the years. But it is possible to select moments that crowned many other moments. Also Moysés comments that these events refer the Community to Eternity.
1 – Offer of life at the feet of St. John Paul II (1980)
All members of the Shalom Community carry the date of July 9th, 1980 in the heart. For Moysés, it was on this occasion that Shalom Charism blossomed. Two years later the first snack bar was opened to evangelize young people.
2 – Inauguration of the first house (1982)
The inauguration of the Shalom snack bar brought together a crowd of young people and the presence of the archbishop Aloísio Lorscheider. This experience was a sign of God’s supernatural action from the beginning of the Community. The Shalom Charism belongs to young people and for serving the young people.
3 – Pontifical Recognition (2007)
On February 22nd, 2007, the Community received the confirmation that its vocation is a gift from God and it is a useful gift for the Church in nowadays. It was also on this occasion that the Church sent the Community to the ends of the earth. The founder emphasized that this day must be engraved in the hearts of all and must be constantly renewed so that the mission of the Charism will never be forgotten by those who live it.
4 – Shalom Convention 35 years (2017)
In September of last year, the Community met with Pope Francis at the Vatican. The experience has marked the life of the whole Community. Moysés explained that the Holy Father in this meeting has embraced all those who are part of the Shalom vocation all over the world.
