The Shalom Catholic Community invites you to pray the Novena to Saint Joseph. It can be said at any time of the year, especially on the days surrounding St Joseph’s Feast which this year will be on the 19th of March. Saint Joseph is a dear Saint to our beloved Pope Francis and to many Catholics around the world. In the Shalom Community, so many graces have been received through the intercession of Jesus’ earthly father. His intercession is well known as a powerful instrument of God’s Divine Providence in the lives of many, most of all in providing for the homes and families as he did to the Holy Family of Nazareth.

NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH
Day 1 – St Joseph, Foster-father of Jesus
In the Name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Most amiable Saint Joseph, who had the honour of feeding, nourishing and even embracing the Messiah; Who so many prophets and kings wished to have seen yet never saw; grant me, with the forgiveness of my guilt, the grace of a humble and confident prayer that can achieve anything through God. Receive with paternal kindness the petitions that I now place before you through this novena and present them to Jesus who deigned to obey you in this earth. Amen.

Day 2 – St Joseph, Spouse of the Virgin Mary
In the Name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Saint Joseph, most chase Spouse of the Mother of God and faithful guardian of Her virginity: grant me, through Mary, purity of body and soul and victory over all temptations and difficulties. I also entrust to you all Christian spouses that, through the unity of a sincere love and fortified by grace, they may support one another amidst the burdens and trials of life. Amen.

Day 3 – St Joseph, Ruler of the Holy Family
In the Name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
O glorious Saint Joseph, who through many years enjoyed Jesus’ presence and filial affection; Who you and your Most Holy Spouse had the responsibility to nourish and clothe, I beg you: grant me the ineffable gift to always live in union with God through the sanctifying grace. Obtain for all Christian parents the grace to faithfully fulfil their grave duties as educators and to their children grant the respect and obedience according to the example of the Child Jesus. Amen.

Day 4 – St Joseph, Model of Faithful

Most faithful Saint Joseph, who gave us so beautiful an example in faithfully fulfilling your duties as the Protector of the Most Virgin and foster-father of the Redeemer: I pray that you obtain for me the grace of imitating your example by being faithful to all my obligations towards my state of life. Help me to be faithful in little things in order also to be faithful in greater ones. Give this same grace to all my dear ones in this life so that we may all enjoy in heaven the promised prize for those who were faithful until the end. Amen.

O good Saint Joseph, who endured with heroic patience trials and adversities on your way towards Bethlehem, on the fleeing from Egypt and during the hidden life in Nazareth, giving me the example of an admirable conformity with God’s will: obtain for me the virtue of patience in my daily difficulties. Also grant this invincible patience to all those who carry heavy crosses so that they may be always united to Jesus, Divine model of meekness and patience. Amen.

Day 6 – St Joseph, Patron of Workers
In the Name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Humble Saint Joseph, who living in poverty, dignified your profession by a constant work and who was happy to serve Jesus and Mary through the fruit of your labour and sweat: grant me love for the job that has been given to me according to my state duties as I seek to do God’s will through it. Protect the homes of all workers in this country against the inauspicious influence of Christ’s enemies and those of the Holy Church. Obtain for them the grace of sanctifying their jobs through the upright intention in everything and by accepting Divine Providence’s designs. Amen.

Day 7 – St Joseph, Protector of Holy Church
In the Name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
O glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, Protector and Patron of the Universal Church: obtain for me the grace to love the Church as a Mother and to honour Her as a true disciple of Christ. I pray that you look upon Her Mystical Body as you once looked upon Jesus and Mary. Protect the Holy Father and Bishops, Priests and those in Religious life. Grant them holiness of life to be the effective apostolate. Guard the children’s innocence, the youth’s chastity, the home’s honesty, the Society’s order and peace. Amen.

Compassionate Saint Joseph, hope of the sick and the needy: help me in all my illnesses and trials by granting me full conformity with the admirable designs of God. Also obtain for me and for all of those that I pray for, through this Novena, healing of spiritual illnesses such as disordered passions, weaknesses, faults and sins; protect us against temptations from the enemy of our salvation. Amen.

Day 9 – St Joseph, Patron of the Dying
In the Name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Blissful Saint Joseph who, dying in the arms of Jesus and Mary, left this world adorned in Virtues and enriched of merit: Help me at the most supreme and decisive moment of my life against the attacks of infernal power. Obtain for me the grace of dying comforted by the holy Sacraments necessary for my salvation. Have compassion for all those who are agonizing by granting them the grace of salvation through the intercession of Mary, your Most Holy Spouse. Amen.

PRAYER: O Glorious Saint Joseph who was exalted by the Eternal Father, obeyed by the Incarnated Verb, favoured by the Holy Spirit and beloved by the Virgin Mary: I give thanks and praise the Most Holy Trinity for the privileges and merits that has enriched you. You are powerful and never was it known of someone who has ever had recourse to you and was left unaided. You are the comforter of the afflicted, solace of the wretched and the advocate of sinners. Receive with paternal kindness whoever beseech you with filial trust and grant me the graces that I ask for through this Novena_________. I choose you as my special Protector. Be, after Jesus and Mary, my consolation in this earth, my refuge in times of trouble, my guide in uncertainty, my comfort among trials and my thoughtful father in all my needs. Finally, obtain for me as crown of your favours the grace of a good and holy death through Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
