On Tuesday, August 6, the day we celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord, the scaffolding was removed from the central icon of the Church of the Risen Lord who passed through the Cross, located in the General Diaconia in Aquiraz.
The icon, more than 14 meters long, conveys the fundamental experience of the Shalom Charism described in John 20:19, of the Risen Christ who communicates Peace to us.
Father Evandro Menezes, the community’s liturgical and sacramental advisor, says that “the icon, in every way, be it theologically or artistically, is a landmark in expressing the beauty of the charism.”
He also says that by looking at the icon, we will be able to contemplate the Glory of God that echoes in this sacred temple and sends us on mission:
“The icon will give people the experience of Thomas, of touching the open side, having an experience of new life, of resurrection and, above all, this experience with the Glory of God that invades this place, with the presence of the Risen One who is here [in the Church] ready to give us a new experience and send us out.”
Emmir Nogueira, co-founder of the Shalom Community, was present in the church during the removal of the scaffolding and left a special message for the community.

Camila Bonfim, a missionary of the Shalom Life Community and one of the iconographers responsible for writing the icon, shares that the mystery of the Resurrection permeates the entire process of listening to and creating the iconography, right from the start:
“The painting itself began in the week of the Resurrection. So this was really very significant for us, as this sign, this experience with the Risen One who passed through the Cross. This icon, I believe, is for us the greatest expression of the Charism, before our eyes. He added: “It’s not we who come to him, but he who comes to us, he who comes!”
During a live stream on comshalom’s Instagram profile, she and the other iconographers shared their experiences with the icon.
