The Youth Festival is a series of cultural, religious, and sports events led by pilgrims of the World Youth Day (WYD), sharing the Christian experience by young people from all over the world, a result of creativity and generosity.
On the other hand, Halleluya has been taking place for over 25 years as a Catholic music festival promoted by the Catholic Community Shalom. Combining music with fun and faith, the event will be held from August 1st to 4th at Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques, starting at 2 PM. Halleluya will be held on one of the 3 main stages of the Youth Festival and will be free of charge.
Youth Festival
It’s important to know that the Youth Festival aims to provide the pilgrims of WYD Lisbon 2023 and the city of Lisbon with an experience of joy, youthfulness, universality, and faith, showing that the Catholic Church is a living and youthful church, capable of using contemporary languages and art forms without compromising the message it intends to convey.
During WYD Lisbon 2023, the program will be based on hundreds of submitted proposals. Pilgrims from all over the world will be the protagonists of more than 350 events, open to all, spread throughout the city. Music, religious and encounter events, dance, exhibitions, theater, conferences, cinema, sports, and much more!
Halleluya Festival
In Lisbon 2023, it will be the fourth time that the Halleluya Festival will be part of the WYD program, as part of the Youth Festival program. It started at WYD Rio de Janeiro in 2013, with the presence of thousands of people who gathered at Arcos da Lapa to enjoy shows by favorite artists or even singers they didn’t know but ended up liking due to the enthusiasm.
In 2016, the experience was repeated in Krakow, the land of St. John Paul II, and then the event went to WYD 2019 in Panama, which featured the presence of more than 15 attractions. Whether rain or not knowing the lyrics, Halleluya attracts young people from all over the world during the World Youth Day.
In this edition, there will be adoration every day, a performance of the show ‘Canto das írias,’ and besides that, the audience will be able to enjoy shows from various attractions such as: Missionary Shalom, The Sun, Reale, and more. All this, in addition to other international bands from various musical styles, ensuring a diverse experience for the pilgrims.
The Halleluya Festival’s slogan is to be the never-ending party, as it allows an experience with God through evangelization with the arts, and during the event, it’s possible to receive prayer and counseling from a missionary of the Shalom Community, as well as confession, vocational stands of the Community, and after Halleluya, there will be a reunion conducted in 5 languages, so that each pilgrim can remain in this experience with the Shalom Charism.
“The event proposed by the Catholic Community Shalom allows each pilgrim to be approached at the Youth Festival, get to know the Charism, and they can still receive prayer and seek the sacrament of confession. The proposal is to continue a path of prayer after the Halleluya Festival in WYD and foster a friendship with God that can begin at WYD but never ends,” explains Márcia Cavalcante, consecrated member of the Shalom Community and responsible for the Halleluya Festival at WYD.
