comshalom

On Saturday 17th of March, the city of Antsiranana, a remote location in the far north of Madagascar, lived a day of great joy at Shalom Evangelization Center where the volunteers of Shalom Expedition Program could provide medical care, cooking classes,  physical activities and personal hygiene education for adults and children. Benefactors from Brazil supported the mission through donations of oral hygiene care kits, educational materials, food, clothes and shoes to the most needy. Furthermore, 50 bibles in Malagasy dialect which is considered the national language of Madagascar were delivered, and also medicines and hospital supplies. Moreover, local people from the prayer groups of Shalom Catholic Community organized a cultural evening.

In the morning, 50 patients were consulted by professional volunteers and 25 children received oral hygiene kits and education while in other room nine young people were learning basic food hygiene care and how to prepare some nutritious dishes that were shared among the students who could also took it to their home. “When they returned to their home, they try to make what they learned for their parents. It is a great gift of God to this people because it is a way to rescue the dignity lost in the social and human fragility “says Magnolia Lima, one of the missionaries in charge of the culinary course.

In the evening, young Malagasy people presented typical dances of the region and showed their talent and the beauty of their culture. Milene Pina, one of the volunteers of Shalom Expedition Program , said: “What surprised me most was their dedication to show their best. We were really delighted by what they showed to us”. The day ended in a friendship environment where Brazilians and Malagasy could share their rhythms and experiences.

This and various other initiatives of Shalom Catholic Community are carried out with the help of benefactors who take up with us the commitment to promote a culture of peace in the world which awaits the manifestation of the children of God (Rom 8:19).
