Shalom in WYD: evangelization and mission

comshalom

The World Youth Day (WYD) is a triennial event that brings together the Pope and young Christian Catholics from around the world in a festive, religious and cultural atmosphere. All the people who attend will experience the person of Jesus Christ, his Word and the Church which calls them to promote, through the youth, peace, unity and brotherhood of people and nations. This edition of the WYD has as its theme: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it to me according to thy word” (Lk 1:38), and will take place from 22nd to 27th January 2019 in Panama City.

Created as an initiative of John Paul II who wanted to encourage young people to a new apostolic zeal and evangelization among young people, WYD has become a different experience from what could have been imagined. Imagine the coming together of the world’s young people with their different cultures and languages and all with a single goal: the experience with Jesus!

The Shalom Community actively participates in the WYD by bringing young people from all over the world to this great experience of being a Church and the protagonists in the building of a new world. The Community’s missionary work will not be limited to Panama City. We will continue the brotherhood spirit of WYD by making a missionary expedition to Bogota, the capital of Columbia.

The first phase of the mission takes place from 22nd to 27th January during the trip to Panama city. The Community’s missionary work will not be limited to Panama City. We will continue the brotherhood spirit of WYD by making a missionary expedition to Bogota, the capital of Columbia. Following the WYD, they will travel to Bogota and pursue their missionary activities that will last until 12 February.

Born at the feet of St. John Paul II, the Shalom Catholic Community was created by a young man, Moysés Azevedo, who wanted to offer his life to the Church and evangelize the youth of the whole world. WYD is therefore an opportunity for the Community to renew its vocation to bring the Shalom to the four corners of the world with the young and with the Church.
