On Saturday 28th April a new place is opening its doors in the heart of Arnsberg, a city originated in the 11th century around a castle of the counts of Werl. A young group of Shalom Catholic Community is in charge of this new initiative of offering a café where people can meet, eat, make friends and also have a new experience with God’s love. It’s called Garage Comshalom. According to Levi, one of the group’s member, the main goal is to provide an environment where it is possible to discover a new way to live faith with joy and happiness. Considering the fact that the Garage is near two large schools, the space was thought to welcome them as a place to make them feel “at home”.
There will be not only lots of different snacks available but also some specialities of Brazilian cuisine. Garage Comshalom is also a place to have parties and on this Saturday night at 8pm a special concert with local bands and DJs has been already organized to celebrate the opening.
Ecclesial and civil authorities such as the prelate Dornseifer, head of the department of pastoral services in the archbishop’s vicariate, the district governor Hans – Josef Vogel and the mayor Ralf Paul Bittner are going to be present for the launching of the Garage. Furthermore, Moyses Azevedo, general moderator and founder of Shalom Catholic Community and fr. Cristiano Pinheiro, the International Assistant of the community are coming to take part of this great moment. In addition, a thanksgiving mass will be celebrated with the participation of a school choir at 5pm.
The inspiration of the Garage was born in Brazil more than 35 years ago and it has spread to many countries as a successful idea of creating an integration place where young people can build a new society of peace. Andrezza, who is in charge of Shalom Catholic Community in Arnsberg has said that they are not only opening the doors of the café but above all the doors of their heart to everyone who will come to the café. Hearts opened to build new bridges of meeting in order to make a way of peace is a very good news to share.
