During August 8th to the 12th, 2018, almost 500 young people from all over the world are expected in Hungary, at the largest and most famous lake in central Europe, Lake Balaton. They will be coming for the first ever Acamps Summer Festival international edition, organized by the Shalom Catholic Community. The goal for this Acamps event is to combine the deepening of faith with fun in the summer.

A different summer! Acamps Festival has so much to offer from camping, sports, games, training, prayer, new friendships and much more. Acamps is now a consolidated event and reaches its 50th anniversary in Fortaleza, Brazil, with more than 1500 young people each year.

The first Acamps in 1990 was established by the young people of the Shalom Community who wanted to offer their friends a different kind of holiday. The Shalom Community presented their peers with the possibility of having fun together while simultaneously sharing the same faith experience they had with God in the Catholic Church. At the time an original idea was born: a campsite for young people! The idea was a success and every year Acamps grew in quantity of participants and in fruits. In fact, after one week of fun and prayer, the young people did not leave the camp in the same way that they had entered. This event began to spread throughout Brazil and eventually to other various countries around the world.

Now the inspiration takes place in Europe with the first edition of the event at an international level. The goal is to offer all young people an opportunity to make a change in their lives through community, fraternity, new friendships, experiences of prayer and adoration, and a lot of fun. All of which favorand give the youth an opportunity to have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ.

The initiative started from the desire of the Community to offer a different experience. It is possible to reach the hearts of young people through what they like, an experience during the summer holidays that will transform their lives“, says Daniel Porto, a missionary of the Shalom Community in Budapest as well as an organizer of the event.

The outline of the event is varied: mornings consist of playing the sport of your choice, competitions between teams, swimming in the lake or simple cohabitation and sharing of life. In the afternoons there will be proposed spiritual activities such as talks on topics for young people, the possibility of going to confession, spiritual accompaniment, Holy Mass and Adoration with the Blessed Sacrament. The concerts will conclude the evenings, with dances and songs motivated by the various bands coming from different parts of the world, including the band Missionário Shalom from Brazil.

The event is open to all young people, believers and nonbelievers, from 18 to 29 years of age. It is a great opportunity for “all the young people who feel a great desire for novelty, something different and want to have an experience that will change their lives”, says one of the organizers of the event.

The first edition will focus on the presence of the Founder and Moderator General of the Community Shalom and its co-founder, Moysés Azevedo and Emmir Nogueira. Both will have moments of talk with young people.
