The mission of the Educational Space of Peace is a place to be used to educate children and young people, in places where rates of violence and vulnerability are high, resulting from poverty. Thus, it will be able to collaborate in personal transformation, through an integral training process, developing the human, social, cultural and spiritual dimension in order to be a means for the promotion of a culture of Peace.
In this interactive space, values will be passed on to promote a culture of peace, human and educational formation, in addition to motivating families and social relationships.
The Space will be inaugurated in Chaves, a municipality in the state of Pará, located in the Marajó Island, belonging to the Arari Microregion, and another one in Fortaleza (CE).
While following and respecting all the pandemic guidelines, the Project will begin in October, with limited actions. The first major event will be the inauguration of the library in Chaves.
The work happens physically and spiritually
The architect of the project, Lívia Rios, states that the Educational Space of Peace is already a sacred space, “it is the result of the effort of many hands, of Catholic people from all over the world”. It is where people have come together to build a sacred space that will transform the lives of those who will be served.”
The entire construction has not yet been entirely finished, but it already benefits the people of Marajó and soon the population of Fortaleza will also be served. In this way, it turns hope into a concrete part of the project, which today is already real and can be seen and touched.
The objectives for the Space of Peace
The proposal of the Educational Space of Peace is to serve children and young people who are already part of a formal education system, to assist in integral educational training, which will be complementary in their personal development and formation, in developing values and helping in socialization. According to Jeovana Freitas, the Human Promotion counsellor, the Space will always be seen with social and hopeful perspectives.
“My expectation is really a dream that comes true. The Shalom Community has been present in Chaves for 25 years. So it was already a desire of our founder to develop an initiative that in a very concrete way, favours the transformation of people, generating a perspective on life. It is a feeling of great joy, to be able to touch this dream that is taking shape,” she says.
Through caretaking activities and spirituality, they will ensure the integral development of the public. In this way, children, adolescents and young people will be trained to be instruments of reconciliation in the living of the Culture of Peace, through Christian values, in the light of the Shalom Charism.
Pedagogical methodology
Pedagogical activities will take place, with a multidisciplinary team composed of teachers, volunteers and missionaries. Among the proposals, is the teaching of different languages, reinforcement lessons, teaching through parables and stories of resilience, testimonies, group dynamics, sharing, creativity and literary development.
For adolescents and young people there will also be basic computer courses, pre-university exam preparation, as well as classes on robotics, aesthetics, agricultural and fishing techniques, professional qualification activities, craft, sewing and cooking workshops. There will still be cultural and spiritual activities, human formation, activities with families and volunteering.
Volunteers are active member of the Space of Peace
The Space of Peace is expected to have volunteers from all over Brazil who are interested in the educational work as well as the missionary and evangelical work. After all, to strengthen the project, we need many volunteers.
“Volunteering is part of it, it will be the face of the Space of Peace, just as it is the face of the Shalom Human Promotion.” She also states: “We hope and really count on volunteers who can make this dream possible, so that this hope really reaches the targeted audience”.
It is expected that by next year, the project will be working at 100% of it’s capacity.
