This retreat of authorities of the Shalom Catholic Community, has the purpose, trough prayer, of tracing the course of the Shalom Work in the coming years. The Eucharistic Celebration was presided in the Cearense Capital by Father Silvio Scopel, current Apostolic Assistant of the General Moderator of the Community, and co-celebrated by all the priests of the Shalom Work. Also present at the Mass were the Community Founder, Moysés Azevedo, and the co-founder, Emmir Nogueira.
The retreat will take place at “Centro de Espiritualidade Santa Teresa (CEST)”, over the next fifteen days and will be attended by nearly 300 missionaries who are currently responsible for the Shalom Catholic Community in over 30 countries. In addition to the retreat participants, members of the community belonging to the mission of Fortaleza also attended the Mass.
In his homily, Father Silvio Scopel asked the faithful to keep the faith they once received so that it may be transmitted as a valuable treasure to all nations, just as Jesus Christ and His apostles did. “Perhaps one of the first things God wants to say to us at this Ordinary General Assembly with today’s Gospel is for us to have a poor heart, because we are not here to defend our own honor or prestige, but in the name of the Kingdom of God and looking for the treasures of heaven”, said the priest.
At the end of the Celebration, the Founder of the Community and current General Moderator, Moysés Azevedo, urged the faithful to recite the Rosary in the coming days as a means of intercession for those in the retreat. Before the Sending Blessing for the participants, Father Cristiano Pinheiro, the priest who is the International leader of the Community, read a letter with greetings from Pope Francis to the members of Shalom Community at this important time of prayer and discernment that began.
