My ACAMPS experience

comshalom

My name is Megan, I live on Long Island, and this was my first ACAMPS. I’m actually pretty new to Shalom as well, I just joined about a couple of months ago. I met some of the Shalom community at a beach mass back in August, and they were just so nice and welcoming, more than I had experienced in the past. I felt like I just clicked with them instantly. That night actually was when they told me about ACAMPS and how I should go. Honestly, it was a super spontaneous decision, but later in the month I booked it.

I really didn’t know much about it going into it, but I knew I really wanted to grow in my faith and be surrounded by this wonderful community. I was super super nervous coming Thursday night. I’m definitely more of a shy person when it comes to meeting new people, and my faith is also something that I typically keep private. It’s hard for me to open up about it since it just feels so vulnerable. I’m usually worrying about if people are judging me and I like to make sure I put on a good front. However, my experience here has opened me up to a whole new world of people praising the Lord so openly and lovingly. It might sound crazy, but I really didn’t know that it was possible to love Jesus as much as everyone here does.

I struggle with my faith sometimes, but the way that everyone prays and worships here — and the way that they really want it for everyone else too — is something that truly keeps my faith alive. I’ve been so touched by the experience of the missionary praying over me during adoration. It feels like they can read my mind and that they understand how I’m feeling, and it really struck a nerve with me, in a good way. I feel grateful and humbled that I was able to have that encounter with Jesus, especially with the beautiful music in the background. The music ministry is so so special. Music holds a special place in my heart because I studied music in college, I play the violin and I sing, so I know the hard work you all have put in to make it flow so seamlessly. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the songs written by the Shalom community, they’re truly beautiful.

And lastly, the friendships I’ve made here over the past few days mean so much to me. I can honestly say that this experience changed my life, for the better, and i’m really excited to grow in faith and friendship with you all. Thank you so much to everyone! I’m grateful for you all.
