During the Listening Retreat of the General Council of the Shalom Catholic Community, God spoke about the fire from heaven that renews the offering of each missionary. Moysés Azevedo, founder of the Community, shared about this reality during the Covenant Community and Life Community Retreat. The event takes place August 20-23 in a virtual format.
“Only with the fire that comes from heaven we are able to live our total offering of life, only with this fire that comes from heaven we can recognize that the Lord is God,” the founder shared.
In his talk, he said that in prayer, the Lord encouraged the Community to build His work not with our own fervor but, rather, with the fervor and ardor that come from divine grace. “Don’t build my work with your own fervor,” Moysés Azevedo shared about what God was saying.
The missionary also explained that many times one wants to build God’s work without the offering and fire that come from grace, and the result of this action is “disastrous” because it expresses something merely human. “Do not build my work with your own fervor and ardor, but with the fire of heaven,” he reinforced.
Moysés Azevedo also asked the missionaries to live the rhythm of the offering of life in their daily lives and to put all those whom God attracts through evangelization into this same movement. It is the dynamic of the offering of life that heals, many times, self-love and self-centeredness. It is also this offering of life that makes people experience the true joy of a life turned to the Lord.
