The Shalom Catholic Community held the Renascer (“Reborn”) spiritual retreat during the Carnival period in various cities in Brazil and in some other countries such as Cape Verde, Portugal, Chile and Argentina. With the theme “Christ is our peace”, the retreat offered something different: the peace that Jesus alone can give.
The program was varied, with music, praise, musical shows, plays, spirituality, worship and the Holy Mass. Children participated in Renascer Kids through songs, games and prayers and experienced the joy of being loved by God.
In the city of Praia, Cape Verde, the missionaries, with the help of 50 native volunteers, held the first African Renascer. The event attracted about 200 youth and adults and 50 children and was marked by great joy:
When I arrived at the place of Renascer, I was surprised by the atmosphere, the presence of many young people my age, which aroused my curiosity to know and to understand the reason that led them to be there. I realized that there was a call: I was called to give an answer. And I do not regret it because in a short time I felt renewed. Being there made me accept God again and put Him first. In Corrientes, Argentina, the first edition of the Revivir reached 210 people. Many have testified that this was a strong experience that changed their lives:
Two wonderful days were lived at the Revivir retreat. There, Jesus once again showed Himself and enabled us to feel and know His immense love and mercy. He who loves us, despite our faults, always forgives us and awaits us with open arms.
