Risen with Christ – Anthony Fiducia’s testimony

comshalom

Originally from New York, Anthony was made a new person after experiencing the endless love of God. His life was deeply marked and transformed by the power of Christ.

In the early ’90s, Mom was doing her best to raise five of us while dad worked hard but wasn’t really present. His message was: “Figure it out yourself.” Like many teens, I craved freedom, but without direction, I spiraled into self-destruction. Getting high became my escape—I lied, stole, and cheated to feed my habit. Eventually, I was sent to rehab, but I kept leaving, living on the streets or wherever I could crash.

I finally returned and, with great difficulty, completed the program. It was a secular place, but my mom was praying the Stations of the Cross for me every Lent, and I know those prayers helped. I was there for three years.

In my last year, a guy named Rafael moved into my room and hung up pictures of Franciscans. Through him, I met Joe Campo, who invited me to a retreat. I wasn’t interested at first, but I agreed to go to a vigil Mass on Halloween. That night, in the quiet church, surrounded by praying friars, I felt a deep peace. Seeing the Blessed Sacrament, I experienced God’s love—tender, joyful, and real. For the first time in years, I felt like myself again.

This encounter led me to pursue my faith. I grew in grace, eventually graduating from Franciscan University, traveling, starting a business, and rebuilding my life. Though life is still hard, I’ve learned to face trials with hope and use my freedom for good.

Old habits have been replaced with healthy ones, and my relationships are now built on trust. I’ve learned that faith isn’t a feeling—it’s a decision to believe, especially in weakness. Forgiveness, too, has transformed me. God’s mercy has helped me forgive myself and others. I’m no longer a prisoner of my past.

I’ve come far, but I know the journey continues. I wouldn’t trade my struggles—they’ve led me to peace, healing, and a hope that never disappoints.

Blessed be God in all His designs!
