The Shalom Convention 45th Anniversary, which will bring together members of the Shalom Work from around the world from November 15–21, 2026, will feature a special program in Assisi, Italy. In a new addition to this year’s edition, the pilgrimage will include two full days of activities in the city of St. Francis and St. Clare, allowing participants more time for prayer and to experience places of profound significance to the Shalom Vocation.

Among the sites that will host the program is the Basilica of St. Clare, where the saint’s remains are buried and important relics connected to Franciscan history are preserved. The church is also home to the San Damiano Cross, before which St. Francis received the call to “rebuild” the Church.

More time for prayer in Assisi
The decision to dedicate two days to the pilgrimage in Assisi represents a significant expansion compared with previous editions of the Convention. According to Moysés Azevedo, founder and General Moderator of the Shalom Catholic Community, the program in Assisi will allow participants to spend more time in the holy places connected to Franciscan history and spirituality.
The city, known throughout the world for the presence of St. Francis, St. Clare, and St. Carlo Acutis, will therefore be one of the highlights of the pilgrimage. The program is expected to provide opportunities for prayer, celebration, and encounters with the history of men and women who made their lives a radical response to God’s call.
For the Shalom Catholic Community, returning to Assisi also means revisiting a place that is already part of the history of its Conventions. The city was included in previous pilgrimages in 2017 and 2022, during the Shalom 35th Anniversary and 40th Anniversary Conventions, respectively.
Assisi during the Franciscan Jubilee
The Convention experience will also take place within a particularly significant context for the Church. In 2026, the Church commemorates the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, as part of the Franciscan Jubilee, which continues through January 10, 2027. The Jubilee is presented as a special time of grace, conversion, and spiritual renewal for the entire Church.
During their pilgrimage to the Franciscan shrines, participants will also have the opportunity to receive a plenary indulgence, provided they fulfill the usual conditions — sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father — and devoutly participate in the Jubilee celebrations.
Rome and Assisi: A Convention centered on pilgrimage
The program in Assisi is part of a Convention centered on the Shalom Family’s pilgrimage to the heart of the Church. Throughout the six-day program, participants will take part in moments of prayer, celebrations at the major basilicas, preaching, and an encounter with Pope Leo XIV, scheduled for November 19 in the Paul VI Audience Hall. An estimated 3,000 pilgrims are expected to participate in the audience with the Holy Father.
Between Rome and Assisi, the program will take participants to two places that are fundamental to the experience of the Church: the city where the Successor of Peter resides and the land marked by the witness of saints who made their lives a radical response to the Gospel.
More than a trip, the Convention presents itself as a time of pilgrimage, listening, and renewal of the offering of one’s life, bringing the Shalom Family together to remember its history, give thanks for the journey it has made, and renew before God its desire to continue proclaiming Jesus Christ to the world.
