Italy, Poland, the Holy Land, India, Bolivia, the United States, France and Pakistan are some of the nationalities of the 20 young people who are participating in this first missionary expedition, Shalom Mission Trip (SMT), with the aim of contributing to evangelization in Asia through the Shalom charism.
Since July 2, the participants have begun this experience, receiving several days of specific formation to be able to be heralds, in the power of the Spirit, of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the Filipino people.
According to Father Vitor Bomfim, a priest of Life Community, missionary in Taiwan and responsible for the formation sessions, the participants are having a “profound experience with the tripod of the vocation through mornings of prayer, unity in common activities, and evangelization, a great gift and the main objective of Shalom Mission Trip”.
Among the topics taught in these trainings and workshops are the experience with the Risen Christ, the common call to be missionaries, evangelization through the use of the gifts and charisms of the Holy Spirit, as well as deepening Marian knowledge, among others.
MISSIONARIES OF PEACE
Among the highlights of the first week of Shalom Mission Trip, the participants celebrated July 9, the 42nd anniversary of the founding of the Community, in a Eucharist celebration presided by his Excellency Most Rev. Charles J. Brown, Nunzio Apostolic to the Philipines, at the Santo Niño Parish.
During his homily, he emphasized that the Community is “the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to respond to the Gospel of today: called to be workers in this harvest, to feed the sheep without a shepherd”.
At the end of the Mass, those present listened to the words of our founder, Moysés Azevedo, on the occasion of the anniversary, and later several missionaries shared their testimonies.
Among the various evangelization activities that are taking place in SMT, the young people have visited small communities bringing the joy of the charism to families and children, as well as performing a street flash mob in which passers-by received an invitation to participate in the Life in the Spirit Seminar that will culminate the evangelization activities of Shalom Mission Trip next July 13 and 14.
