In the city that first welcomed the Shalom Community to the United States, an inspiring event is about to unfold. On November 15 and 16, experience the first Shalom North American Congress, under the theme “For the Church, For the Youth, For Mankind.”
The Congress will be held at St. Anthony’s Hall in Cambridge, Massachusetts (400 Cardinal Medeiros, Cambridge, MA 02141) and marks a historic occasion: the first visit of Moyses Azevedo, the Shalom founder, to North America, with missionaries coming from Boston, New York, Orlando, Toronto, and Montreal.
The schedule is filled with meaningful moments of fellowship, praise, adoration, Holy Mass, and confession. We will deepen our experience with the Shalom Charism and renew a powerful encounter with the living person of Jesus Christ.
Moyses will speak about life offering and vocation, and he will also answer the questions participants bring to him, in addition to all the powerful moments of prayer.
Simultaneous translation will be available throughout the event.
This is a unique opportunity to encounter God and experience the Shalom Charism, whether for the first time or on a deeper level.
About the Shalom Catholic Community
The Shalom Catholic Community is a vocation recognized by the Holy See, founded in 1982 in Fortaleza, Brazil, by Moysés Louro de Azevedo Filho, who dedicated his life and youth to bring Christ and the Catholic Church to those who were distant, especially young people.
Today, the Community carries out dynamic evangelizing actions among youth, families, children, the poor, Indigenous peoples, and professionals from all walks of life, sharing the experience of Jesus Christ through media, arts, science, culture, and works of human promotion — all as expressions of mercy responding to the sufferings of our time.
The Shalom Community has been present in North America for twenty-one years, having first been founded in Toronto, Canada, and celebrating ten years of presence in the United States this year.
Speaker
Moysés Louro de Azevedo Filho is the founder and general moderator of the Shalom Catholic Community and has served as a consultant for the Pontifical Council for the Laity since 2007 and the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization since 2011.
After experiencing God’s love through the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in 1976, and in 1980 being chosen by Archbishop Aloísio Lorscheider to offer a gift to Pope John Paul II, he dedicated his life to the evangelization of young people. On July 9, 1982, the Shalom Catholic Community was officially founded.
He has participated in several Synods in Rome and the Fifth Episcopal Conference of Latin America in Aparecida (2007). His preaching is marked by overflowing love and zeal for evangelization, especially among youth. He resides in Aquiraz, at the Diakonia, in Brazil, where he leads the Community’s general government in service to the Church and humanity.
