The Shalom Convention marking the Community’s 45th anniversary now has a confirmed date. From November 15 to 21, the Catholic Community Shalom will make a pilgrimage to the heart of the Catholic Church to experience days of prayer and renewal in its mission.
The most anticipated moment of the Convention will be the audience with Pope Leo XIV. The meeting and its date were announced by the Founder and General Moderator, Moysés Azevedo, during a live broadcast with the entire Shalom Community on the evening of Monday, March 23.
The Shalom Convention is marked by moments of prayer, spiritual discernment, and listening to God. It also brings together members from missions around the world and includes participation in liturgical celebrations in churches in Rome and Assisi, Italy.
Convention to take place one year earlier than planned
The Convention was originally scheduled for 2027. However, the date has been brought forward to allow the Community to dedicate more effort to World Youth Day 2027, which will take place in Seoul.
During the live broadcast, Moysés also shared that one of the reasons for moving the Convention forward was the desire to meet the Holy Father as soon as possible.
“We, as the Shalom Community, want to be present in large numbers with the new Pope. This will be a great opportunity for all of us to be with him as soon as possible,” he said.
As a result, the Convention will open the celebrations of the Shalom Community’s 45th anniversary.
Franciscan Jubilee
Moysés also announced that part of the Convention program will take place in Assisi, a city known for its saints, St. Francis, St. Clare, and more recently, St. Carlo Acutis.
According to the Founder, this will be the first time the Convention will include two full days of activities in Assisi, allowing the faithful more time for prayer in these sacred places, which hold deep meaning for the Shalom vocation.
According to co-founder Emmir Nogueira, who also took part in the live broadcast, holding the Convention in Assisi carries profound spiritual significance, as the Church celebrates this year the 800th anniversary of the passing (Paschal celebration) of St. Francis of Assisi.
The Franciscan Jubilee will continue until January 10, 2027, as a privileged time of grace, conversion, and spiritual renewal for the entire Church.
During the pilgrimage to Assisi, participants will be able to obtain a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions, sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father, by devoutly taking part in jubilee celebrations, including pilgrimages to Franciscan shrines.
What is the Shalom Convention?
The Convention brings together members of the Shalom family from around the world in Rome. Since receiving Pontifical Recognition in 2012, the event has been held in the Eternal City every five years.
One of its most significant moments is the meeting with the Successor of Peter (Benedict XVI in 2012 and Francis in 2017 and 2022).
It is a special opportunity to listen to what God, through the Vicar of Christ, wishes to communicate and entrust to the Community and, in a particular way, to each member of the Shalom Work.
