The Holy Mass will begin at 10 a.m. and will be presided over by the Archbishop of Fortaleza, Dom Gregório Paixão, OSB. On this occasion, four missionaries of the Shalom Community will receive the second degree of the sacrament of Holy Orders, being configured to Christ the Priest for the service of the Church and the people of God.

The following will be ordained priests:

  • Deacon Marcos Lopes Cavalcanti Fernandes, from Cabo Frio (RJ), with the motto: “Let it be done to me according to your word!” (Lk 1:38);
  • Deacon Alan Freitas Costa, from Rio de Janeiro (RJ), who chose as his priestly motto: “To reconcile both to God” (Eph 2:16);
  • Deacon Rogério Ferreira Lima Gomes Alves, from Iguatu (CE), whose motto will be: “You have kept the good wine until now” (Jn 2:10);
  • Deacon Marcos Luann Queiroz e Carvalho, from Fortaleza (CE), whose motto is: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (Rom 8:35).

Ordained for mission

The celebration marks a new chapter in the history of the ordained ministry in the Shalom Community. Thus, the Ordination also takes place in a spirit of thanksgiving for the new vocations who place themselves entirely at the disposal of the mission and the Gospel. The new priests will be sent to serve wherever they are called, bringing the Gospel, through the Shalom Charism, to different realities in Brazil and around the world.

For Fr. João Chagas, responsible for the priests and seminarians of Shalom, living this moment in the Church of the Risen One has a special meaning. “We saw with Dom Gregório that [celebrating the Ordination in the Church of the Risen One] would be an opportunity for a greater expression of the Charism, in its own richness,” he emphasized.

The Church of the Risen One and liturgical life

Having been dedicated in 2024, the Church of the Risen One who passed through the Cross now becomes the setting for one of the most significant moments of the life of the Church: the ordination of new priests, called to serve the people of God through the proclamation of the Word, the celebration of the Sacraments and pastoral care.

This will be another milestone in the history of the Church, which, in 2025, hosted its first Diaconal Ordination and, in May 2026, received the first Confirmation held on its premises, establishing itself as a space of intense liturgical and sacramental life at the service of the Church.

Pray for the new priests

The entire Shalom Work is invited to unite in prayer for the future priests, that they may persevere faithfully in the ministry they will receive and be shepherds after the heart of Christ, disciples and ministers of Peace for the men and women of our time.
