“I pray for peace!” Shalom Community launches prayer campaign for peace in the Middle East

Let us unite in intercession for peace in the Middle East, following the appeal of Pope Leo XIV: “No one must ever threaten the existence of another,” in his call for peace between Israel and Iran.

“He who prays, governs the world with God,” said Saint Teresa of Ávila. Trusting in this wisdom from our patroness, the Shalom Catholic Community launches a Prayer Campaign for Peace in the Middle East, especially due to the recent attacks between Israel and Iran.

Fr. Saulo Dantas, General Assistant, called on Saturday, the 14th, for all members of the Shalom Community and Work to intercede for peace, offering this intention in the recitation of the Holy Rosary, in prayers before the Blessed Sacrament, and during Eucharistic Celebrations.

“We all watch with concern as different situations of war spread around the world. And unfortunately, in recent days, we’ve received the painful news of worsening tensions in the Middle East. We, as the Shalom Catholic Community, are bearers of a charism of peace — we are disciples and ministers of peace. For God’s glory, we also have brothers present in the Holy Land who, with courage, proclaim peace in the midst of war. I want to invite the entire Shalom Community and Work to fill the heavens with our cry, with prayer, asking God to bless our land with the priceless gift of peace,” urged Fr. Saulo.

Pope Leo XIV’s Appeal

Pope Leo XIV also expressed his concern about the Israel-Iran conflict during the Jubilee Audience on Saturday morning. He called for responsibility and reason from all nations.

“No one should ever threaten the existence of another. It is the duty of all countries to support the cause of peace, opening paths of reconciliation and promoting solutions that ensure security and dignity for all,” the Holy Father emphasized.

A choice of love in times of war

The Shalom Community has been present in the Holy Land for nearly twenty-five years — to be completed in October. With missions in Haifa and Nazareth, it counts sixteen missionaries among the members of the Life and Covenant Community (the latter being natives of the Middle East).

Amid the conflict in the region, three missionaries from the Community of Life made their vows of celibacy for the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, June 13. The Brazilian missionaries were Lella Beatriz, Lívia Luíza, and Maria Andréia. The celebration took place in the Grotto of the Annunciation in Nazareth and was presided over by the guardian of the Basilica, Fr. Wojciech Bołoz.

In the Shalom charism, celibates are members who choose to live more radically the lifestyle embraced by Jesus Christ in this world (cf. Statutes of the Shalom Catholic Community).

United with so many Christians and missionaries in the Middle East, let us pray for peace.
