Exactly one year remains until the opening of World Youth Day (WYD) Seoul 2027, the Catholic Church’s largest international gathering of young people. To mark the countdown, the event’s organizers will premiere the official WYD anthem this Monday (Aug. 3), during a livestream on the official World Youth Day YouTube channel.
The Shalom Catholic Community will rebroadcast the event starting at 8:00 a.m. Brasília time on the Comshalom YouTube channel, allowing young people across Brazil and around the world to take part in this milestone as preparations for the pilgrimage enter a new stage.
The anthem will premiere exactly one year before the opening of WYD, which will take place from Aug. 3–8, 2027, in Seoul, South Korea.
Official anthem launches the one-year countdown
Titled “Confidite, Ego Vici Mundum” (“Take courage! I have conquered the world,” in Latin), the anthem was selected from 434 submissions, including 294 entries from composers outside South Korea.
The winning composition was written by South Korean composer Francis Jiyoon Kim and was inspired by the biblical theme of WYD Seoul 2027: “Take courage! I have conquered the world” (John 16:33).
According to the Local Organizing Committee, the anthem was created to become a shared expression of faith among pilgrims and one of the defining symbols of the event.
Preparations enter a new phase
With the arrival of the one-year countdown, preparations for WYD are moving into the implementation stage.
The Local Organizing Committee is now focused on the infrastructure required to welcome hundreds of thousands of young pilgrims from around the world. Planning includes international hospitality, accommodations, transportation, communications, security, medical services, and pilgrim support.
In addition to the anthem launch, several other initiatives are scheduled for the second half of 2026 as part of this new phase of preparations.
Global environmental campaign
Also launching this Monday (Aug. 3) is the international campaign “Breath of Life”, inviting young people around the world to plant trees and share their participation on social media.
Inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ and by the experience of World Youth Day Lisbon 2023, the campaign encourages care for our common home, seeks to reduce the environmental impact of WYD, and aims to leave a lasting ecological legacy beyond the event itself.

An invitation to journey toward Korea
According to Archbishop Peter Soon-taick Chung of Seoul, president of the Local Organizing Committee, the coming year will be crucial for completing preparations and welcoming young people from across the globe.
He said that after three years devoted to building the foundations of the event, the time has come to finalize every aspect of the organization so that WYD Seoul 2027 may become a great celebration of hope and a witness to the hospitality and solidarity of the Korean people.
World Youth Day Seoul 2027 will be only the second WYD ever held in Asia, following Manila 1995, and the first to take place in a country where Christians are a religious minority.
Organizers expect hundreds of thousands of young people to gather for an experience of encounter with Christ, the Church, and the Holy Father.
This Monday (Aug. 3), young people will be able to take the first step on this spiritual pilgrimage by watching the worldwide premiere of the official WYD Seoul 2027 anthem on the Comshalom YouTube channel.
