The Shalom Catholic Community in Brooklyn Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary

October 22, 2020 marked the founding of the Shalom Catholic Community in Brooklyn, a date providentially aligned with the feast day of Saint John Paul II. For the past five years, the Community has lived its mission of contemplative prayer, fraternal life, and evangelization—serving the Church and all those in search of God, in need of His love, and longing for an encounter with Him. The St. Lawrence International Center and the Shalom Community held the “Festival of Hope” to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first youth meeting with Pope Wojtyla in St. Peter’s Square, the seed of World Youth Day. Shalom Community in New york  The Shalom Catholic Community was invited by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio from the Diocese of Brooklyn to establish a mission in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Williamsburg is known as a “dead zone of faith” and is one of the areas of the world with the greatest number of millenials.  This first mission of Shalom in New York was founded on October 22, 2020 the day of Saint John Paul II, a saint very dear to this charism of new evangelization. As we deepened in the Shalom vocation, and discovered this magnificent charism through the spousal love, our life, our family and everything around us was changing. It didn't take long for us to feel the strong call to leave as a missionary family. It was then that, in 2013, we came to Boston.
