Shalom Youth Congress: `Youth for Peace’

One week after the dreadful terrorist attacks in Paris, France, not very far from there something else took place. This time is not something fearful but quite the opposite: it is cheerful and most of all hopeful. The Shalom Catholic Community hosted the Congrès de Jeunes Shalom (CJS), that is, the Shalom Youth Congress. The Community, established in 1982, have been promoting the CJS for many years throughout Brazil gathering thousands of young Brazilians and even other nationalities in its previous editions. This is the first time the event was held in Europe and the country chosen was… yes, France! The dates have been in the Community’s calendar since 2014. The organizers along with the whole Community have been praying and ...

Special Celebrations at Shalom Community in London

Three missionaries of Shalom Catholic Community from London (UK) made their solemn commitments on the 24th and 25th of July, 2015. Francisca de Oliveira made her First Temporary Promises as Covenant Community and the couple, Clelio and Josi Souza, were admitted as new Disciple members also from Covenant Community. The first celebration took place at St Monica’s Catholic Church in Hoxton Square, London. The Rite of First Temporary Promises occurred within a Eucharistic celebration and marked an important step in Francisca’s vocational life. Francisca, a Brazilian young woman, had moved to London in 2004 searching for a change in her life. Less than a month of her arrival she was invited to a prayer group led by Shalom Community. “I ...

Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ

This Sunday , in the Holy Land,  we celebrated the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ.  For us, Shalom Nazareth, this Solemnity is more special because we are in the place where the Word became flesh, and this is a big grace that feeds our faith. With this Solemnity the Church, our mother, shows us the Eucharist as the perpetual source of Her own, and our, life. Jesus has promised to stay with us until the end of the world (Matt. 28:20). He is with us in His word, which leads to the Father. He is present, even more, in the Sacrament of His Body and His Blood. This sacrament fills us with the ‘”incarnation” of the ...

3rd edition of the pilgrimage to the Saint Joseph Oratory

On 25th and 26th of April, Shalom Catholic Community in Toronto promoted the third edition of the pilgrimage to the Oratory of Saint Joseph in Montreal, Quebec. Once a year, since 2012, with the exception of 2014, the community organizes a pilgrimage to sacred Catholic places in Canada. This initiative is an important way to get people to know more about the presence of our Church in Canada through these places built to pay devotion to saints who lived at different times in history. The pilgrimage started in the morning of 25th with the pilgrim’s arrival in the city of Kahnawake, in Quebec, where the Shrine of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha is. The group had a guided tour through the place ...

God’s love is the best experience of my life

My name is Juliana, I’m from the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), I’m 17 years old. It’s been over three years that I take part in prayer groups, meetings, cenacles, and retreats. However, about one year ago, I let Jesus touch me with His infinite mercy and eternal love. That was the best experience that I have ever had in my life. Before that, I served at the music ministry of a prayer group, but during weekends I also went to places consacrated to the Demon, I used to drink, smoke marijuana, play and listen to songs consacrated to the devil. I used to congregate with people who didn’t believe in Jesus, they were drugdealers, that means, they ...
