The Glory of God is Man Fully Alive

Fully Alive is a Life in Spirit Seminar that is run by the Shalom Catholic Community every year in the Archdiocese of Boston. This year it will be an online retreat on September 26th and 27th. The Life in the Spirit Seminar is commonly used by Catholic groups in the context of renewal in the Roman Catholic Church.  It is an instrument for bringing people into a deeper experience of the work of the Holy Spirit. The Seminar offers the basic presentation of the Gospel and the basic teaching about what the Lord is willing to do for all who come to Him. For those who have already attended a Life in the Spirit Seminar, there will be also a workshop ...

God created me to live something special

Hello my name is Wendy V. Ramírez, I’m a Disciple here in the Boston Mission, soon to be going to help with the foundation of the NY Mission. I grew up in a loving Catholic family although we didn’t always go to church or would only go on to mass on Sundays, I always had a special relationship with God. I remember praying every night with my parents and having conversations throughout my day with God as if He were my friend who I could always count on. I always felt the strong sense that God had created me to live something special with Him and throughout many points of my life He has confirmed this, from the first moment ...

Unprecedented Mass

The mass for discipleship and postulancy was something I never imagined.  When I say this, I am referring to the unprecedented moment caused by the coronavirus pandemic.   Everyone had to be six feet apart and wearing face masks during the celebration of the Eucharist.  I am sure it’s not how everyone had envisioned such a momentous occasion.   Despite the separation caused by social distancing, the feeling of unity filled the room.  The Shalom Boston mission came together to bear witness to the fruit of three individuals answering God’s call for their vocation.  I witnessed Wendy Ramirez, Joao Lucas Lima, and Chris Barton take the next step on their journey in fulfilling their vocation.   All three members had to enter ...

Seven suggestions for drawing closer to the Holy Spirit

To discover the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit is one of the greatest experiences a human being can undergo. Consequently, here are ten suggestions for drawing closer to the Holy Spirit. In The Holy Spirit, a great spiritual writer, Father Edward Leen, says that “Christians do not dwell as they ought on the immense advantages that they may derive from the intimate friendship which the Holy Spirit is eager to establish between them and himself, as God.” Father Leen continues: “The Holy Spirit has…an infinite capacity for friendship….The Holy Spirit is laden with all the secrets of God – secrets not only of surpassing interest in themselves but of great import for the creature. These deep things of God the Holy ...

Let’s prepare our hearts for the coming of the Holy Spirit

The novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is still the only novena officially prescribed by the Church. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian. This Novena begins on the day after the Solemnity of the Ascension, Friday of the 6th Week of Easter, even if the Solemnity of the Ascension is transferred to the 7th Sunday.   ACT OF CONSECRATION ...

2 years of Miracles!

Miracle! This is the best word to explain about these two lasts years of the presence of the Shalom Catholic Community in the Philippines. Miracle because this is the will of God to this country and to this people. Miracle because through this Charisma of peace God showed, and continues showing us, what is His way. The way of the true life! As a new community, and together with the Church, we are called to spread the Hope, the Love and the Joy from our God, Jesus Christ, the One who passed trough the Cross.   Two years of mission, as a foundation, we know that it is not enough. We are just starting something that really started 37 years ...

The end of an era… To begin a NEW ONE!

In September of 2017, we arrived in the Philippines for a new chapter of our missionary lives. None of us have ever lived in a foreign country before and for us it was like going on to live a new adventure that this life of following Jesus would guide us to. From then to now, we have had the opportunity of getting to know this culture in all the possible ways through food tasting, as of almost every day in the 6 first months that we lived in a farm located in a province named Masbate and even after that, experiencing the most famous delicacy of the country called balut. Also, we have had the chance of going to different ...
