Shalom hosts retreat for Diocesan and Religious seminarians
From 6-10th of July, 2015, Shalom Catholic Community will host in the city of Fortaleza, Brazil, the Shalom Retreat for Seminarians. The retreat is open to any diocesan or religious seminarian from Brazil and other countries. Through moments of prayer, talks and life sharing, the Community wishes to deepen the fundamental concepts in the path towards priesthood. St Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer
St. Patrick’s Breastplate is a popular prayer attributed to one of Ireland’s most beloved patron saints. According to tradition, St Patrick wrote it in 433 A.D. for divine protection before successfully converting the Irish King Leoghaire and his subjects from paganism to Christianity. (The term breastplate refers to a piece of armor worn in battle). More recent scholarship suggests its author was anonymous. In 1960, Brother Aloysius Louis Scheerer, a Dominican Friar, was appointed Bishop of Multan, Pakistan. What is interesting about him is that on the occasion of his ordination to the episcopacy his big family was there, namely, all his nine siblings. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that all ten of them, including Brother Louis, entered religious life. Ms Scheerer, a widowed mother, raised all 10 children in the Catholic faith. Her husband wanted to become a Dominican priest himself and entered seminary for the Order of Priest (OP). He left after only six months and later married Gertrude. Shalom promoted a retreat at Consolata Missionary Centre
From March 6 to 8, Shalom Catholic Community promoted an opened retreat at Consolata Missionary Centre. Under the theme “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted! (Matthew 5:4) the community invited Portuguese speaking living in the Great Toronto Area to enjoy a different weekend where they could pray and learn more about the love of God. During these 3 days, the attendees had the chance to participate in a schedule consisting of talks, moments of prayer, praise and worship and daily Mass with Father Jean Thomas from the Community of Saint John, in Montreal, Quebec. New book on the Ordained Ministry
Saint Colman’s Society for Catholic Liturgy hosted in July 2014 the VII FOTA International Liturgy Conference in Cork, Ireland. The main theme was “In Persona Christi Agens: Aspects of the Ordained Ministry” where aspects of the ordained priestly ministry and sacred liturgy where addressed. A new book has just been release as a result of the conference. The book “Agere in persona Christi – Aspects of the Ministerial Priesthood” was edited by Mariusz Biliniewicz, a theologian, international spokesman and former lecturer at Mater Dei Institute in Dublin, Ireland.
