The Way of the Cross was meditated in an artistic way and recited in several languages. In the course of the meditation, testimonies of young people who have experienced different realities were presented. They were present and at the end of the meditation of the Way of the Cross they were welcomed by Pope Francis.

What is the Way of the Cross

The Way of the Cross is the meditation on the Way of the Cross by which Jesus Christ redeems the world. On this journey we meditate on the events from his condemnation before Pilate to his being laid in the tomb after his death.

This journey is a total of 14 stations and is usually prayed during Lent. More than two thousand years later, the Church continues to meditate vividly on the events of Christ’s life left to us through the Word.

“Today you will walk with Jesus”

Thus begins the Holy Father. During the Central Act of the day, Francis invites the assembly to renew the way of the cross with prayer, to go out of themselves and meet the other, which for the Pontiff is love. It is in looking at Jesus that we learn to sacrifice and give our lives for others.

Pope Francis invited those present to silently think about their sufferings, anxieties and the loneliness they experience. After all, Jesus weeps with each one and with His tenderness welcomes the sufferings, makes Himself present and wants to heal all pains, because He is always present. May your fear not imprison you.

World Youth Day continues this Saturday (5) with the Vigil with the Holy Father in Tagus Park.
